Description

About It:

NGC7293, also known as "Helix", or "the eye of God", is the closest planetary nebula to Earth. Its distance is estimated at 500 light-years.

In the expanding envelope, the Hubble telescope detected the presence of planetary nodules, which could be the remnants of an ancient planetary system, currently blown by the wind of particles from the dying central star.

The intense ultraviolet radiation of the white dwarf warms up the expelled gas layers, which glow brilliantly in the infrared. As a result, a picture taken in the ultraviolet combined with a picture taken in the infrared spectrum makes it possible to highlight some subtle details.
