Description

The Crab Nebula is a what is left of a supernova explosion seen from Earth in the year 1054, and recorded by Chinese astronomers as a guest star. It was visible for 642 days, and for 23 days it was visible during the day.

At the center of the Crab Nebula is the Crab Pulsar, which in this picture is the smaller of the two stars in the middle of the nebula. The Crab Pulsar is a rapidly spinning neutron star and a very powerful source of X-rays.
