Description

IC 410 , sometimes known as the Girino Nebula because of its north-eastern filaments, is a large emission nebula visible in the constellation of the Auriga ; it is linked to the open cluster NGC 1893, formed by young rather massive stars. The region is home to important star formation processes that generate massive stars.

IC 410 is identified in the central-southern part of the Auriga constellation, in a region very rich in stellar and nebulous fields located just south of the line connecting the stars ι Aurigae and θ Aurigae ; to the west of the nebula we observe a double concatenation of stars of magnitude 4 and 5, clearly visible even to the naked eye and dominated by the star 16 Aurigae, which helps in identifying. Through a telescope it is possible to identify the central open cluster, known as NGC 1893, formed by several tens of stars up to magnitude 12 forming an alignment oriented in a north-south direction. The nebulous outline, on the other hand, remains invisible to telescopes with a more common diameter, but is easily revealed in long-exposure photographs.
