Description

This object is a small globular cluster located 35,000 light years away in the southern constellation of Puppis. At only 50 light years across, it is one of the smallest globular clusters. Given how small it is and how low it appears in the southern sky from my location, I am surprised that my image appears to resolve many of the stars of this small cluster. Interestingly, it is believed that this cluster was once a member of a nearby galaxy, called Canis Major dwarf, which has now been assimilated by our Milky Way galaxy. So this may be one of the few times that I have been able to resolve stars which belong to another galaxy.
