Description

Firstly big thanks to Arlene Sopranzetti for giving me the motivation and knowledge to take this shot. Your photography is trully inspiring.

As the Milkyway was rising late, the first 1/2 of the previous night was spent concentrating on deep sky imaging only. After I spoke with Arlene and saw her startrails shot (as well as her other amazing photos) , I realized my DSLR could be productive early in the night. I picked a spot I could leave my DSLR set up looking North for a few hours and centered Polaris in the frame. Not very imaginative but you have to start somewhere. I then imaged until the memory card filled up which was just over 2 hours of 30s shots plus 1 x 240s shot for the ground. Stacking is a breeze in StarStax which is easily the most intuitive astroimaging related software I've ever used. Its also very satisfying watching the images stack in real time.

I've never really looked at a star trail image before but the wide range of star colors is quite beatiful. Lots of planes and satelites to see. Even what I think is a small satelite flare. Also see if you can find the bid dipper at one end of it's star trails.
