Description

On 29 April 2022, Mercury reaches its greatest elongation of 20.6° from the Sun.  At that time Mercury can be seen some 1.5° south of M45.  As the sky was clear and as I do not have a clear horizon from my home, I drove a few kilometers outside of where I live.  I used my iOptron Skyguider pro with my Canon EOS EF 70-200mm zoomlens for the inset image and my Samyang 35mm lens for the main image.  I first spotted Mercury with my binoculars in the bright sky about an hour after sunset.  When the sky got somewhat darker I could also find the Plejades with my binoculars.
