Description

NGC 2403 (also known as Caldwell 7) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the long-necked constellation Camelopardalis. NGC 2403 is an outskirt member of the M81 Galaxy Group, and is approximately 10 million light-years distant from Sun. It bears a striking similarity to M33, being about 50,000 light years in diameter and containing numerous star-forming H II regions. The giant HII regions are energized by clusters of hot, massive stars that explode as bright supernovae at the end of their short and furious lives. The northern spiral arm connects it to a star forming region NGC 2404.
