Description

This image was taken by accident. I was trying to learn to work my new mount. I did a quick

polar alignment and then performed a select and slew. I chose IC 1805 the Heart Nebula and

my mount slewed to the location. I took a test image and noticed the two clusters. I could

not see IC 1805. I then ran the image through Gimp doing some stretching to see if I

could bring out the nebula. Still no nebula. I told myself that I was not in the right location.

Because I forgot to do a "One Star Alignment" to calibrate the "go to" function the mount

was a few degrees off. Once I did the "One Star Alignment" the mount slewed perfectly to

whatever object I chose. Before I left the clusters I took two more light frames. Today I since I've not been able to do any imaging due to the weather I decided

to process those three light frames. I got a decent image with my processing and then I did

some research to try and find the identity of the clusters. I really love open star clusters both

in an eye piece and in an image. They are one of my favorite objects to image. In fact I've been

making a list of open clusters that I want to image. I've never imaged NGC 957 before. It's

an object that is not imaged very much apparently. As open clusters go it's unremarkable.

However it is another open cluster that I can add to my folder of open clusters. With all of

that said please enjoy my first image of NGC 957. I'll sure be glad when the weather allows

me to get outside and do some imaging.
