Description

Omega Centauri is so far south that I am not able to see it at home in Switzerland. Here on the Canary Island of La Palma it currently rises up to around 13.5° very early in the morning. After a long night shooting several targets, I could finally observe it at around 4:30 AM. It was a spectacular view through a 10x50 bino, I could see it rising through the trees... While most globular clusters are just a speck of dust in a 10x50 bino, Omega Centauri is a breath taking view: Very big, extremely bright and you are almost able to resolve single stars. I was able to catch a few subs and I am very pleased with the final image. Although so low above the horizon, the sky is so dark here that it does not really matter... What a wonderful way to end a beautiful night.

The scope used was a Pentax SDP 105 with 672 mm focal length which makes f6.4.
