Description

Grüezi,

Another image from my wonderful holidays in the Canary Islands. One of the most iconic deep sky targets: IC 434, the Horsehead Nebula. I was able to collect 3.5 hours over two nights. It rises very high to the sky over there and the Bortle 2 sky resulted in a almost self-processing image.

While staying at the Athos Centro Astronomico other guests kindly allowed me to take a look through a 20 inch (if I remember correctly) Dobsonian. IC 434 was easily visible, a nebula with a straight edge and a dark, horsehead shaped notch. The flame nebula was also a very impressive visual target... a clear flame shape with dark veins. You just had to take care of Alnitak or your dark adaptation was lost.

Best regards,

Jan
