Description

This complex object consists of a reflection nebula and several emission nebulae, located 1300 light years away in the constellation of Orion. As with many areas of Orion, this is an interesting, delicate, and subtlety beautiful area of the sky.

The blue reflection nebula in the lower left corner is vdB 38, the red emission nebula in the lower left corner is Sh2-263, and the red emission nebula in the upper right corner is Sh2-265. The open star cluster at the bottom left is Dolidze 19, while the open star cluster at bottom right is Dolidze 17. Not much has been documented in the literature on these objects.

I find the nickname regarding the combination of vdB 38 and Sh2-263 to be one of the more imaginative and appropriate ones.
