Description

Grus is a little luminous constellation in the southern hemisphere. Grus is the Latin name of "crane", symbol of ancient Egypt.

There are several very interesting objects in this constellation. For now I will mention only the planetary nebula IC 5148, also known as the Spare Tyre Nebula, and the Grus Quartet, a group of four interacting galaxies.

The arrangement of the stars is quite characteristic and our ancients have seen a long neck bird.
