Description

This really looks like a Monkey Head to me. Just need to get get some RGB now on a clear night with no moon. I also captured this last week (2 days after the Jellyfish Nebula) when the moon was almost full. I managed to get 1.2 hrs on it. I had double this time but once again on a supposedly clear night clouds moved in so I had to trash half of the exposures.

Note:

If you are thinking about getting an Ha filter for a DSLR, you should know the cons:

1) you are using 1/4 of the pixels which means you will have to be on an object 4 times to get the equivalent data as you would if you had a monochrome camera.

2) it is so dim you really can't use the live view to focus on star unless it is very bright. This means you have find the object without the filter and orient the FOV, then put the filter in and take a series of short exposures to zero-in on the focus.

Don't get me wrong, it is cool shooting objects other than clusters when the moon is up but you should be aware it is more than slapping in the filter and shooting if you are using a DSLR. A salesman from Highpoint recommended the Baader 31nm rather than the 7nm that I have as it will pickup more light. It would be cool to do a comparison but I don't want to spend $200
