Description

This object is a bright lenticular galaxy located 25 million light years away in the constellation of Sextans. Lenticular galaxies contain a disk and a central bulge of stars but no detectable spiral pattern. The profile of the galaxy is interesting to me - a bright smallish globular core, bisected by a bright streak of stars, surrounding by an elliptical glow.

This object is 85,000 light years in diameter. It is an older galaxy with little gas and dust left for new star formation. The galaxy is striking to me in how its brightness overwhelms the surrounding sky.

The galaxy towards the upper left is PGC 29300. 30 other faint galaxies are visible in this image.
