When I went outside tonight I intended on imaging IC 2177 the Seagull Nebula and IC 1805 the

Heart Nebula. I did a select and slew on IC 2177 and took several test images at different iso

settings and exposures to see if I could see the object in a test image. I then did a select and

slew to IC 1805 and my mount brought me to the Double Cluster instead of IC 1805. The mount has done this several times before. I then decided to image M67 and not waste any more time.

The mount did find M67. When I finished imaging M67 I decided that I would do a select and

slew to something close to IC 1805 the Heart Nebula to see what would happen. I chose

NGC 896 which is actually part of the Heart Nebula but astronomers have given this part

of the Heart Nebula it's own designation. My mount found NGC 896 because I took a test

image and could see it in the test image. I decided to go ahead and image NGC 896 since I

was already on it. I can't figure out why the mount can find NGC 896 but can't find IC 1805.

I'm new to "go to" mounts and I'm not sure how to correct this. Anyway please enjoy my

first image of NGC 896.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
