At only about 12 million light years distant, M81 is one of the most studied galaxies. This image captures the M81 galaxy (commonly known as Bode's Nebula), M82 (the Cigar Galaxy) and the much smaller galaxy NGC3077. All of these are part of the M81 group and are affected gravitationally by each other.
