Description

Good morning everyone! Today's image is Messier 38, an open cluster of stars that can be found in the constellation Auriga about 3,420 light years away from Earth. This beautiful star cluster can be easily seen with a small set of binoculars, and looks stunning even in smaller telescopes. The brightest star in the cluster is a class G yellow giant. The cluster is estimated to be about 220 million years old, and is grouped together with two other nearby starclusters, Messier 36, and Messier 37.
