Description

Good morning everyone! Today's upload is an image of Messier 58. Classified as an intermediate spiral galaxy, this galaxy has an interesting inner ring structure,. The galaxy can be found in the constellation Virgo, and lies some 68 million light years away. This galaxy like many in the Virgo galaxy cluster, this galaxy has a low rate of star formation, and a low amount of neutral hydrogen. One of the characteristics that makes this galaxy interesting however, is the ultra compact nuclear ring at the center of the galaxy, where star formation is occurring. Not many galaxies exhibit this phenomena, which is a series of star forming regions which appear to be arranged in a tight ring in the nucleus of the galaxy. I hope you like today's image, be sure to check back tomorrow for a new one! Clear Skies!
