Description

Group shot of open star clusters in Puppys ! It was difficult to find the right frame because these clusters are difficult to detect.

Tamron 500 mm - 1600 ISO

A quartet of open clusters, in the same field, and formed of detachable stars on the sky background is quite rare. The constellation of Puppys, very rich in clusters, offers this possibility.

NGC 2567 consists of about thirty yellowish stars, for the most part. Its location on the edge of the Milky Way, in a zone with a low star bottom, allowed its identification as early as 1793 by William Herschel. Distant at about 5470 light-years, it has an estimated age of 290 million years.

NGC 2571 was also discovered by William Herschel in 1793. His young stars are bluish for the most part. It is about 4375 light-years away from our system.

NGC 2580 and 2587, more difficult to identify visually, were discovered much later by the son of William Herschel, John, respectively in 1837 and 1835.
