Description

Tamron pushed to the maximum: 1200 mm under Moon...

NGC 2516 or Caldwell 96 is an open cluster that can be commonly referred to as "Sprinter" or "Souhtern Beehive" because of its resemblance to the Beehive Cluster M 44. It is also compared to a diamond, hence this other name of Diamond Cluster.

NGC 2516, discovered by the Abbé Lacaille in 1751-1752, is only visible from the Southern Hemisphere, as it is located in the constellation Carina. It is easily visible without an instrument, because of its brilliance (apparent magnitude: 3.8) and its large extent (30 minutes of arc).

Distant about 1300 light years from Earth, this open cluster has a hundred white-blue stars and two red giant.
