Description

I've been working on imaging the Orion Constellation and Orion Molecular Cloud Complex over a range of focal lengths the past few months. This is the third of several posts from that project. This image was taken with an Opteka 500 mm mirror lens at F/6.3. The Opteka lens is a super low-cost 'baby SCT' and performs reasonably from my limited trials to date. No replacement for a decent telescope, but fun for filling in intermediate focal lengths between my telephoto lenses and SCT...

This image of the Orion Nebula (M42), M43, the Running Man Nebula, and the surrounding region was taken with a Nikon D750 DSLR and Opteka 500 mm mirror lens at F/6.3 using a Skywatcher Star Adventurer Mini (SAM) mount. This image consists of 72x 30s subs calibrated with dark, flat, and bias frames in DSS. Final image was post-processed using Startools (Binned to 50% of original size, wiped to remove gradients, developed (stretched), contrast adjusted, HDR processed, color adjusted, and noise reduced).
