Description

This Narrow band image is the combination of (13) Halpha, (14)NII, (13)SII, (12)OIII and (5)Yellow. This is data taken over two years.

Cacoon Nebula, IC 5146, Sh2-125, is a emission nebula with a reflection nebula in the constellation Cygnus. IC 5146 as a cluster of 9.5 mag stars in the bright and dark cacoon nebula core. The blue star to the upper left is Pi Cygni, the nebula is about 12 arcmins across, and 15 light years across.The dark nebula Barnard 168 surrounds the nebula and projects upward in this image. Along with the Cacoon and B168 is a considerasble, though rarely imaged, hydrogen gas cloud covering most of the field.
