Description

This object is an open cluster located 1500 light years away in the constellation of Scorpius. It consists of 125 resolvable stars with an equivalent diameter equal to that of our full moon. It is faintly visible to the naked eye. The blue and orange stars provide an attractive color contrast.

This region of the sky contains a significant amount of dust which partly obscures the background stars. This dust, combined with the low southern sky declination of -41 degrees, makes this image to be less bright and more hazy than normal.
