Description

This object is a lenticular galaxy located about 80 million light years away in the constellation of Leo. Although it is 3/4 as large as the Milky Way, because of its distance it appears to us to be a small galaxy (about 3 minutes in diameter). It contains about 40 billion stars.

This galaxy is unique - it is the first spiral galaxy where the gaseous components are observed to counter-rotate with respect to the stars.
