Description

Two items of the Leo Triplet - M 65 (also known as NGC 3623) and M 66 (also known as NGC 3627) located in the constellation Leo. Both are classified as intermediate spiral galaxies, with M 66 brighter than M 65. They are about 35 million light year away from earth for M 65 and 36 million light years for M 66. The galaxy with the striking dust lanes and bright star clusters along sweeping spiral arms is M 66. In my image M 66 is the top galaxy with M 65 being the bottom image. Both M 65 and M 66 were discovered by Charles Messier in 1780.
