Description

This is the last in the series of images of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex I've been working on this winter. This is the fifth post from that project. This wide field image was taken at a focal length of 50 mm and includes the entire Orion constellation.

Image was taken with a Nikon D750 DSLR, Nikon Series E 50 mm at F/2.8, ISO100 mounted to a Skywatcher Star Adventurer Mini (SAM) mount. I used an Orion Skyglow imaging filter on the front of the lens, but there were still serious issues with light pollution gradients in this image. This image consists of 40x60 subs calibrated with dark, flat, and bias frames and stacked in DSS for a total integration time of 40 min. I stacked a longer series of images, but those suffered from worse light pollution gradients. Final image was post-processed using Startools (Binned to 75% of original size, wiped to remove gradients, developed (stretched), contrast adjusted, HDR processed, color adjusted, and noise reduced). Next year, it will be time to find a dark sky site for my wide field images.
