Description

Tamron focal 1000 mm - ISO 1600

I wanted to make a super fun picture of a cluster of stars, much like we see in magazines.

This object lends itself well. It is on the Milky Way, there are enough stars, a beautiful central cluster and a big orange giant.

IC 2488, in constellation Vela, is an open cluster discovered by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1752 during a trip in South Africa. It is located approximately 3,700 light years away from Earth and has 280 million years.

The star HD 82668 (N Velorum ou N Vel) is close to the cluster. It also bears the traditional name Marut, which is the Sanskrit name of one of the Hindu gods of air and wind. N Velorum is an orange giant star located 239 light years.
