Description

I picked this target because I wanted to see what I could do. NGC3631 has a gorgeous grand design spiral structure, is small (just 3% the full moon), and fairly dim at 10th magnitude. Measuring 60,000 light years across, it is 60% the size of our own home, The Milky Way. At about 34 million light years away, when the photons contained in this composite first began their journey across the void, the Rocky Mountains were just beginning to nudge up and North America splitting from Europe forming the North Atlantic Ocean.
