Description

This small galaxy was going to be a real challenge due to the enormous amount of light pollution at my location and limited resolution of my wide-field telescope.

The barred spiral galaxy NGC 2903 is similar to our own Milky Way and lies about 30 million light years away from us.

I was quite surprised to see some of the faint outer spiral arms. Detail in the core was improved with drizzle stacking and deconvolution. The luminance data was then down-sampled again to native resolution and further used without any noise reduction. I tried to be a bit conservative with color saturation of the galaxy and stars.

The original wide field image also contains spiral galaxy NGC2916 (magnitude 12) near the bottom and many small galaxies in the background, see Rev. B for annotation.

It is presented in Rev. D with a more artistic crop/rotation to show the largest galaxy along a group of small, very distant galaxies on the right side.
