Description

* Image Acquisition by the staff at Deep Sky West Remote Observatory (www.DeepSkyWest.com).

* Processing: Jose Fernandes.

* Distance: 2.65 Mly.

Andromeda is a spiral galaxy located about 2.5 million light-years away from Earth in the direction of the Andromeda constellation. It is the closest to the Milky Way and can be observed with the naked eye depending on the atmospheric conditions. It is estimated to contain about 500 billion stars and is on a collision course with our galaxy. Computer simulations show that star collisions will be rare, revealing how far apart they are from each other.

From the observation of the image, I highlight the following objects:

• NGC 206, a brilliant stellar cloud and

• M32 and M110, two Andromeda satellite galaxies, both ellipticals, located about 2.9 million light years.
