Description

This moon image was taken in December 2017.

12 RAW files hat been manually aligned in Photoshop with subpixel accuracy by developing the image with 200% in camera raw, which means 96 Mpixel image size. Within a stack of layers and averaged by smart object layer stacking, all 12 frames were blened into another. The resulting 96 MPixel image was then sharpended by using a high pass filtered layer and then reduced to the original 24 MPixels.

Adiditonal slight unsharp masking reveals some more fine details.

Furhteron, with a stauration layer mask, the moon surface was enhanced to make geological differences visible. To avoid artifacts, only the yellow/red and blue color channels had been enhanced. In order to avoid desaturation of these subtle color differences, the green channel was kept unmodified.

Color channel enhancement was kept to a minimum on my calibrated monitor, so that the moon does not get an artificial, overcolored look.
