Description

This week is a long anticipated holiday week in Japan. In Okinawa the city hall is using cute cars with imprinted mascots uttering through speakers noisier than my images: "please stay at home, protect your life and that of your beloved ones". At the same time they let 10 thousands of tourists on the small islands. Interviewed by TV, one traveller said, "I will strictly confine myself in the hotel room." Hiphip hurray, with these hero Godzillas we can't loose. On another TV channel: "All about the Michelin restaurant guide".

I thought this is a fine day -- for taking pictures of Mare Humorum, also in celebration of about 900 USD one-time cash the country will pay out to every resident, poor or super-rich. Liquor shops are having high hopes for economical recovery.

Anyway, no more fun facts. Last evening, it was finally clear for a few hours, seeing was varying but mostly better than usual. It was too early for my primary target, the Aristarchus Plateau, but the rainy season can begin any hour, so stir your stumps. The evening's topping was high humidity at around 90%RH. Primary, secondary mirrors and filter surfaces condensated in no time. When you pause the session for toilet then get back outside onto your PC chair and think, "shoot, still wet", then this is the misty chair, not you. Tracking was everything else but good, so I am not sure who was more cropped at the end of the session, the images or myself.

All images are stacks of 200 frames from 2000 recorded, 8-bit mono, 1.5x drizzled. Sensor temperature 36°C. Given the sensor size of the camera and the moon's apparent diameter, the approximate theoretic resolution at FL=1500mm is 0.4" or 70 meters per pixel and 0.27" or 50 meters at FL=2250mm, respectively.
