Description

This object is an elliptical galaxy located 70 million light-years away in the constellation of Virgo. It is slightly larger in diameter than our Milky Way galaxy. Like other elliptical galaxies I have imaged, this galaxy does not have much detail and was difficult to process without resulting in ugly contour bands. I reprocessed it many times before coming up with an image that was OK, although I still am not wild about it.

Recent studies using telescopes much more powerful than mine have suggested that this galaxy should be categorized as a lenticular (more disk-like) galaxy. My image does hint at a more oblong, less spherical shape than other elliptical galaxies I have imaged.
