Description

The image was obtained this week. Total imaging time was about 10 hours only. Each sub was a 10 minute UNGUIDED image...as usual at Darkestskies.com we NEVER autoguide, why bother?

Skies weren't even as good as usual but hey ya take what you can get!

For those interested in science, these two colliding galaxies are going through a star burst period, evident in the image for sure. As the gas clouds collide the inject enough energy to cause star formation to begin. These two galaxies were at one point, both on their own. Note the extremely long tails, you can easily imagine planets and stars were orphaned by the collision. The galaxies are about 55 million light years from us.
