Description

Another episode of my spectral exploration of the whirlpool galaxy Messier 51. Today I'm proud to present a Near Infrared (beyond 780nm) view onto the twisted galaxies. Unfortunately I had a lot of trouble with SGP failing to plate-solve after the meridian flip, so there were only a few minutes of integration time left and the noise is still dominant. Additionally the QE in the infrared spectrum is quite low and the integration time would have to be extended even further. This makes it a bit tricky to compile a VIS-NIR version, but I'll try it nevertheless. Enjoy!
