Description

Last Saturday, after a long time, there was finally a clear night over Manchester! I decided to image the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, M13.
I managed to collect 1 hour and a half of 30s light frames at 800 ISO, that's my usual setup to avoid excessive field rotation due to the alt-az mount, luckily around 10pm the position of M13 is mainly east, so not too bad in terms of field rotation.
I had to discard 30% of frames because of bad tracking/wind/whatever else, so I ended up with around one hour exposure.
From one end I'm quite pleased by the roundness of the cluster stars, I was worried that field rotation would ruin everything, on the other hand I'm a bit disappointed...I would expect a bit "more" stars, the image is a bit "dark", but I guess the relatively long focal ratio f/6.3, the short collection time and light pollution all play a role here.
