Description

The Orion Nebula, also designated as M42 and NGC1976, is an emission nebula that lies at a distance of approximately 1350 light years from us. It is the brightest diffuse nebula in the sky with its brightest portions spanning over 4 times the size of the full moon. It is one of the most studied star forming regions in the sky and spans an approximate diameter of 24 light years. This image was taken with an unmodified dslr, thus its built in filter has removed much of the pink and red hues.
