Description

This object is a spiral galaxy located 20 million light years away in the southern constellation of Hydra. This seldom-imaged galaxy is only 25 degrees from being edge-on and is almost the size of our Milky Way.

I think it is a fascinating sight - the irregular arms and dust lanes of the galaxy encircling a bulgeless core and surrounded by an unusual number of bright colorful stars. It is almost as if the galaxy is centered within an open star cluster. The galaxy dust lanes appear to wander about throughout the structure of the galaxy .
