Description

Today I want to present you very interesting object - The Cocoon Galaxy - NGC 4490 (larger) and NGC 4485 (smaller).

NGC4490 is barred spiral galaxy distorted by a close meeting with smaller galaxy NGC 4495.

Their close meeting began very intense star forming processes in both galaxies and also in the "bridge" connecting both objects.

The Galaxy has quite big surface brightness and with apparent magnitude 9,5 mag and the position near the zenith, makes it an excellent object for short-exposure astrophotography

NGC 4490 and NGC 4485 are collectively known in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies as Arp 269

We'll find it in the constellation of Canes Venatici
