Description

Doesn't look much at first sight - no spectacular Messier objects to find anywhere!

I could verify with SIMBAD and ALADIN the limiting magnitude in this image which is betond 20. One little galaxy had a SIMBAD g value of 20,059.

More on my website: www.drogenberg.be

Please look at the larger image to find pile of dozens of little galaxies. A lot of the 'fuzzy stars' turn out to be galaxies!

Abell 2199 is a cluster of galaxies - situated to the upper right of the Hercules keystone.

The brightest member is NGC6166 (with 4 components A,B,C & D), magnitude 11, all others are down to magn. 16 - 17 range and beyond. Distance 50 million LY. Abell 2199 is a prime example of the missing mass enigma. In total there should be thousands of galaxies...

How many galaxies can you count? You need to zoom in! I found almost 200 in this image, not counting any 'suspicious' stars.

Tracking was not always excellent during all sessions (I had now 6 consecutive nights of imaging from home, something only outdone by France holidays imaging, 4 last nights were used for this object).
