Description

M51 (NGC5194) is a Spiral Galaxy with a much smaller dwarf companion, known as NGC 5195 Located in the northern constellation of Canes Venatici near the constellation Eta Ursae Majoris the Big Dipper. It's one of the most famous galaxies in the sky, appearing face-on when viewed from Earth. M51 is about 30 million light years from Earth and about 60,000 light years in Diameter, it contains over 100 billion Stars a magnitude around ‎8.4 it's relatively bright and visible in binoculars, especially from dark sites. Discovered by Charles Messier in 1773
