Description

Good afternoon everyone! Today's astrophoto of the day is a globular star cluster known as Messier 3. Messier 3 can be found in Canes Venatici about 33,900 light years away from Earth. This globular cluster is quite far above the galactic plane or disk of our milky way galaxy at a distance of 31,600 light years above our galaxy, and about 38,800 light years from the core of our galaxy. This globular cluster is one of the oldest in our galaxy, and is estimated to be about 8 billion years old. This globular cluster contains about 500,000 stars, and is about 180 light years in diameter. I hope you like today's image, and as always, Clear Skies!
