Description

M 64 (also known as NGC 4826) called The Black Eye Galaxy or Sleeping Beauty. This spiral galaxy is located in the constellation Coma Berenices. Its distance from earth is estimated at 30 million light years. This spiral galaxy obtain its name from the spectacular dark band of absorbing dust in front of the galaxy's bright nucleus. It was discovered in March 1779 by Edward Pigott, and independently by Johann Elert Bode in April of the same year, as well as by Charles Messier in March 1780.
