Description

This object is a beautiful dark nebula located in the incredibly dense star field of the Scorpius constellation, towards the center of our Milky Way galaxy. I could not find any detailed information on this object. I don't recall imaging a star field more dense than this one.

Dust throughout the entire image creates an orange cast to the star field. In the center of the image, the interstellar dust cloud is so dense that it completely blocks the light from all of the background stars. The cloud has the appearance of a dolphin chasing its dinner.

I really like investigating the edges of the "dolphin" in the full resolution view of the image, where the dust thickens and our view transitions from seeing many stars to seeing nothing but black.
