Description

I made 5 RGB & IR runs of 4 mins per channel. However, this image was derived from the first run alone. I chose this one because the seeing was really excellent and it nicely shows Olympus Mons on the terminator at right, which subsequently rotated out of view.

The large albedo area is Mare Cimmerium and towards the f limb the iconic Sinus Gomer projects into the red/ gold coloured Elysium Planitia. Further north is the shield volcano Elysium Mons whose bright flanks are surrounded by a lighter coloured plain.

Meanwhile, as I mentioned, Olympus Mons is on the terminator on the p side of the Central Meridian, with one flank lit by the setting Sun and the opposite flank in shade. Tenuous orographic clouds can be seen around its peak, but they are much thicker around Arsia Mons further south.

Blue-white water vapour clouds are on the f limb over Syrtis Major which is rotating into view. They are also present, as usual, around the north polar region.

These clouds could be very clearly seen in the Blue filter video feed and I have included the final Blue image from this capture. as version B

The SPC is now so small it is difficult to pick up in the eyepiece.
