Description

Messier 101 is a spiral galaxy located some 21 million light years distant in the constellation of Ursa Major. It was first observed on 27 March 1781 by Pierre Méchain. The galaxy spans approximately 170,000 light years and contains at least one trillion stars (O'Meara, The Messier Objects Second Edition; 2014).

This is data from a remote imaging rig located in Spain that is jointly owned and operated with Barry Wilson. The data were collected over several nights between 11 and 22 May 2018.

Ha: 12 x 1200s

Lum: 42 x 600s

Red: 24 x 600s

Green: 18 x 600s

Blue: 25 x 600s

A total of 22.2 hours of exposure.
