Description

NGC 2527, also classified NGC 2520, is an open star cluster located in the constellation of Puppis.

Discovered by William Herschel in 1751, this cluster spans approximately 5.7 light years (10 minutes arc), at 1960 light years from our system, with an estimated age of 446 million years.

Astronomers in the southern hemisphere have an advantage in observing it, that is perhaps why it is very rarely photographed.
