Description

Testing of a new Hydrogen Alpha narrow-band (7 nano-metre) filter on the Tarantula Nebula, an emission nebula in Dorado in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The Hydrogen alpha band is the discrete wavelength of electrons dropping to the 2nd orbital shell from higher orbital shells in Hydrogen atoms, the most common interstellar gas. This is 55 minutes of exposure. Plan is to acquire an hour exposure with the H-Alpha filter, followed by an hour each for the Oxygen-III and Sulphur-II filters, then combine the data into a false colour composite using the “Hubble Pallet”. These gas clouds are areas of intense star birthing within a satellite galaxy to the Milky Way.
