Description

M42 - The Great Nebula in Orion - never fails to impress southern hemisphere viewers during the summer months.

Wikipedia .... "There has been speculation that the Mayans of Central America may have described the (Orion) nebula within their "Three Hearthstones" creation myth; if so, the three (Hearthstones) would correspond to two stars at the base of Orion, Rigel and Saiph, and another, Alnitak at the tip of the "belt" of the imagined hunter, the vertices of a nearly perfect equilateral triangle, with Orion's Sword (including the Orion Nebula) in the middle of the triangle seen as the smudge of smoke from copal incense (aromatic resin from the copal tree) in a modern myth, or, in an ancient myth, the literal or figurative embers of a fiery creation".

SW200mm/f5, NEQPro6, Polemaster, ASI1600mmPro: L-132 exposures x 6 secs (Gain 150), R-137 x 6 secs (Gain 200), G-144 x 6 secs (Gain 200), B-145 x 6 secs (Gain 200) - Total 55.8 minutes exposure, Temp: -15C. I was in a hurry to get some exposures before Orion disappeared behind my guttering, so I ended up binning the Luminescence channel at 2x2, when 1x1 would have given better resolution. The on-board DDR 256Mb memory buffer seems to be fixing the amp glow that I think I was sometimes experiencing with the planetary ASI224mc.
