Description

This object is a dark nebula located in the constellation of Lupus (the Wolf). Although the nebula looks a bit like a wolf, it is named for the constellation in which it is located. The nebula is part of the Lupus molecular cloud. The surrounding star field is very dense in this area of the Milky Way. The tiny orange reflection nebula at the top center of the image is also interesting.

I have always been fascinated by how efficiently these dust clouds block out the background star light.
